Haldex ConSep - Anybody?
« on: April 16, 2019, 08:54:58 PM »
Was reading threads on an RV forum and saw that someone installed a Haldex Condenser/Separator before their air dryer and was happy with it. It sends air from the compressor through a spiral that draws out the water and oil then purged it when the brakes are applied (via electric from the stop light switch). This pre-drying extends the life of air dryer dessicant by a lot and apparently removes 90% of the moisture and oil. While they're designed for rigs that use a lot of air/brakes and so keep the compressor on a lot, it seems like it could be a worthwhile addition to my air system. Eh, maybe its overkill.

Anybody have one of these? I found them for $80 on eBay.

Overkill indeed! A well maintained air dryer does a good job. The replacement cartridge for the dryer is so cheap, you can replace it even more often than necessary.

Busnut duty cycles don't usually require that sort of equipment.

You want to service the air drier every few years anyway... some stuff annually...so the bolts all come apart, clean, check heater resistance, condition of power wire, fresh desicant, etc etc.

The Consep is a desirable device for transit bus, garbage truck, anything where the compressor is running non-stop.

Right on, I'll start with staying on top of the air system maintenance first.

And you already have a sort of pre-catcher in the MCI discharge muffler.

"Drain Daily" down the back, side engine compartment against the back of the tag wheel well.
