Webasto Heater

I started tinkering with the Webasto after doing some research here. Before I reconnect this fuel line, what precautions should I take.

It was disconnected when I purchased it.

Can't speak specifically to your situation without knowing more, but when I was bringing mine back to life it was necessary to flush the fuel out of the Webasto before connecting, as there was some really nasty stuff in there.

The other thing to keep an eye on is whether you'll need to reprime anything. Not sure where the fuel pump for the Webasto is.

On mine, they tapped into the fuel supply for my diesel generator. I didn't know that when I started working on the Webasto, so I lost prime on the generator's Perkins engine. What a PITA.

Check the fuel solenoid and fuel pump for leaks before you fire it off and if equipped with the warm up feature look for fuel leaks there too,it probably has fuel leaks is why the line is disconnected.if the fuel pump is leaking those are high dollar

Yeah,  my mechanic told me it was likely disconnected for a good reason.

I was only interested in hopes it could be used to keep me warm while working on the bus.

I'm almost all muscle and get cold very easily.

The stove I planned to use is on back order.

There is no trusting the reasons why a previous owner did what they did. We've seen so much crap over the years on here, that made absolutely no rational sence...

It could be just fine, ir it could be a fire waiting to happen.

It's for you to discover which it is?

It would be really nice for it to be simply disconnected and just need the dirt rinsed out.

If the fuel pump leaks you can change the shaft seal (6X16X5SC Type SC Nitrile Metric Oil Seal got mine at the theoringstore.com)and oring you can get at a hardware store match it instead of spending 3 or 4 hundred bucks for a new fuel pump. also you can drill out a old fuel nozzle tap it to 1/8th" pipe thread and put a pressure gauge on it to test pump pressure (https://www.irv2.com/forums/f104/hydro-hot-fuel-pressure-80601.html).

X2 on making your own fuel pressure test gauge.

Without one, you can do everything else and still fail in your efforts to make one of these run correctly.

If the pump makes proper pressure, it also indicates adequate battery, adequate wiring, along with knowing there will be proper fuel atomization through a good nozzle.

If you're going in, you gotta go all the way...

Like I said. Just looking to stay warm during conversion. Definitely something to look into later.
