last question
« on: May 31, 2021, 01:20:57 PM »
Last question for a while. Owners manual on 6V92 (from Prevost) regarding maintenance for the air system. I know how to bleed tanks, yarn bottles for air going into suspension etc etc. But, item 4 says " Always keep alcohol in the alcohol evaporator and be sure that the alcohol evaporator system is working.".
Yikes. Where is that, what does it do, and guessing rubbing alcohol is not the right stuff??
I'm getting maintenance done of several things by a guy who knows all this stuff, but not until September when he can get me in. I'll ask him "what's this" until he kicks me out of his shop, but appreciate you seasoned guys helping me in the interim. Alcohol evaporator???

The alcohol system is used as antifreeze for the airlines.  It makes sure your brakes don't freeze up in freezing temperatures.

If your bus has a air dryer don't use alcohol that was old school tech,it probably has been gone for years is why you don't see it,Bendix has not recommended alcohol in their brake systems for years now

Thanks guys. Finding more and more my Prevost owners manual is generic and so far 8 things that "don't apply" on mine. No alcohol tank on mine. My heavy equipment friend dropped by and said what you just did. I will have 3 days with a long time Prevost shop that still does the old stuff in September. My neighbor says I worry too much. I flew military jets for a while. I learned to worry a LOT during that time in my life and guess I didn't get over it. Also, my bus shut down on the interstate 2 times in one day on the maiden voyage. I need it to work or Rita will sell it.

My Prevost still has it. It's located in the battery compartment near the primary fuel filter.

As to having an alcohol bottle I think it's a far north Canadian thing.

I have air lines going to 4 things that do nothing anymore. My small brain says get rid of things that might spring an air leak. My smart brain thinks my bus holds air for 4 weeks. Not broken - don't fix.

Unless your small brain, on penalty of death, knows exactly what those things and lines do/did, and knows for sure that their removal will not cause a difficulty now, or in the future...

Smart brain knows what it is doing.

Small brain rarely is as good as it thinks it is...
