Evansville or Blythville?
« on: September 05, 2021, 02:30:30 PM »
Anyone know if Evansville or Blytheville have anything planned? I couldn't go to Hershey and had to bail on the Flx parade when my dermo doc found a bump on my head. (Had to get that lopped off the Friday before the parade but they were able to use my campsite for a Flx late arrival so got to love that!). Probably a stupid question about any more events and probably stupider (is that a word?) to go to anything for a while. They just closed all of our schools and our hospital is full of Covid. Our ER has 28 rooms and half of those are Covid right now because there is no room upstairs!
I just figure there is a BCM person that attends or participates in those events and I would like to know if I am missing something. Don't see it as a listed event on this website. I should probably let my head heal and watch U Tube parades. Just not as fun as firing up the 6V92 and going to see old buses....

Stan Holter (bus boys from Minnesota) organized the 2017 Evansville rally. He was planning a rally at the restored Birmingham, AL Greyhound terminal. It has been postponed by the city due to Covid. He is hoping to have the rally next summer if the city allows it. I organized the Blytheville rallies (2013 & 2019). I will do another, but do not have any dates as yet. Maybe a few years out.

I'd stop by without the bus if it was close enough for a day trip but Blytheville seems a bit far. Is Evansville down south, or is it the one in Indiana?

Thanks Tom. I don't know what was going through my empty head when I though Covid was only coming to a theatre near me. I'll quit whining about Covid, but when there is an event, does the BCM gang get notified? Is it listed on the "Events" board on this site?

Evansville is IN. Tom didn't realize you put together the Evansville rally! I did know you commandeer ed the Blytheville rally. We attended both and gotta say thanks for the energy you put forth to make such enjoyable events happen.  :^

Look at the bright side Jim!
By the time Covid variants wrap around the world about four times and finally fade a bit so there can be a parade, your bus will probably be all done! And with people still not wanting to get shots, expect lighter traffic and less frustration finding space at a campground !!!

If you all are waiting for the powers that be to give you permission to return to normal life, good luck with that.  A bus rally, any bus rally would be a welcome event for regular folks. Florida and Texas still have normal people there.  Sebusnuts rally is coming up in Florida this October. We have had several successful rallys throughout this hysteria.  An antique bus rally would be welcome, especially in these strange times.  Patrick

Just barely in Indiana, it's as far south as you can get and still be in the state.

Dan, please re-read my post. Stan Holter did the 2017 Evansville rally. He and I seem to unofficially trade schedules, so as not to compete with conflicting rallies.

Patrick, When one organizes an antique bus rally centered around a historic former terminal, one MUST play ball with the host city. Stan and I both attempt to offer people a truly unique experience with our rallies.  Whatever persuasions you and I may feel will not change what the city will allow. I am very patient. I will wait for the next opportunity. You were in Blytheville.....you know it's worth the wait. I guarantee Stan's Birmingham rally will be a do-not-miss affair.

Might make it out there in 4 or 5 years, not likely before. I'm still hopeful that we can do the Great Loop eventually. But since Indy and Louisville are both about an hour away I'll be sticking pretty close to home for the next couple of years. Still have waste tanks and such to build, so until the basics are in hand it's pretty much day trips.

I went through Quartzite on our travels out west in July, just to check it out. Great for those living out west. In Jan, I'll be shovelling snow, so that won't  happen for us, unfortunately. Plus 4 to 5k round trip @ 6mpg. Oh well.
