one odd injector in 6v92
« on: April 06, 2024, 12:10:21 PM »
Installing a Jake brake in 6v92 TTA.  It has (5) 9290 injectors and (1) 9F90 ( all Reliabilt, which I read here don't come highly recommended)  Probably needed a new injector and PO just put in what was handy?  I can't find any info on equivalency of these injectors so wondering if anyone has any idea if the are equivalent? If they are not seems like engine unbalanced and need to change it out.  What does 9F refer to?  Any ideas ?

9290 and 9F90 meter the ML in fuel 85-91 depending on the calibration the spray pattern is different the 9290 uses a 5529184 tip the 9F90 uses a 5229622 tip you need to change the 9F90,or better yet change all the injectors to 9G90's ,"F" is size of the spray holes ,"9" is is numbers of sprays,' the letter is the hole size, and the last numbers is the amount of fuel one can deliver, they have 3 setting for calibration "low, medium and high "you can send the  9F90 to Don at Quality Fuel Injection in CA and he can change  it to the match the rest for around 60 bucks      209-863-8810

Thank you Luvrbus,...Quality Fuel Injection  sounds like the thing to do with that one injector.  As I haven't got this engine installed in the MC-2 yet,  I don't know how 'warm/hot' it is going to run compared to the 6v71 that was in there. (They used to say it would be about 15 degrees more). I added a third radiator but even so I am contemplating reducing the HP and heat generation by dropping down to perhaps  9G85's, or whatever, after I get it back on the road to test out. I think that makes sense. I'm not power hungry, just want reliable. Whatever the injectors, the 92turbo should be a healthy improvement over the 71 natural. Thanks again for the explaination and the tip.   Brian R.
