fuel shutoff
« on: May 06, 2024, 01:03:35 PM »
I have a 1983 6v92 with the push type air cylinder that pushes the fuel shutoff lever. It is controlled by a skinner valve that is 24 volt. This engine is in a bus that is 12 volt. I have read that the thing to do is to get a combination electric over air 12 volt unit, (thus eliminating the seperate skinner valve). and that is what I would like to do.  Alternatively, I could use an all electric unit (no air needed) which is what I had on the older 6v71---problem is it was a "pull" solenoid but the 6v92 needs a "push" solenoid.
I have read several posts on this ( including some part numbers) but have not been able to run anything down and positively identifying something that would work. Stewart and Stevenson and PC Industries no help so far.

Seems like an electric "push" solenoid would be the simple thing, ...but I do have the air line plumbed in if a "combo" unit is available.  Many different solenoids online but what would be right for the 6v92.              Any thoughts appreciated.  Cheers, Brian R.

You can usually flip the lever on the shaft and make a pusher out of a puller or vice versa..>>>Dan

Luke might have a 12 volt coil for your skinner valve.

Military engines use a single electric solenoid for shut down but they are all 24V, Parker make dozens of electric over air for shutdowns that will work with your shut down cylinder you don't need to pay the money for a skinner valve,I have one of the Kysor/ Cadillac all in 1 air and electric shut downs some place they were used on fire trucks,I don't think you can buy that style any longer should a photo of it here some where ,here is a photo of what one looks fits in place of cylinder on top of the governor, hot wire to the top and air line underneath the hot wire you need a momentary switch for it to work ,no skinner valve involved with it
Life is short drink the good wine first
