insurance again
« on: February 25, 2025, 01:04:28 PM »
After 25 years of ownership and no accidents or claims, I'm having trouble getting insurance on the coach.  My current carrier that has all my autos and house bundled has more than doubled since 2023.  I can get liability $300k limit, but I cannot get comprehensive.  Progressive won't insure conversions in Texas. Allstate won't touch it either.  Good Sam is $307 per yr, liability only.  My local agent is still looking.  I can stay where I am and pony up or drop comp and collision and get it cheap.  I'm not sure if I want that exposure.   I've tried to unbundle and separate the coach, but I'm getting nothing.
 Any ideas from anyone?
David

Go liability only, if you had an accident where the body was damaged, it would probably be you that would be fixing it. If you had comprehensive and collision, the insurance company could easily declare a low total value and make it a salvage vehicle. There are no book values to go by, so you are stuck with their values unless you have an agreed value policy, which might be costly. We simply are stuck with risk, and we have to have liability in order to have plates.  :(

Davud, I paid $2200 a year for 300 thousand liability ,full coverage with a replacement value of 300,000,from State Farm,$1000 deductible, no deductible on glass ,it was a Country Coach factory conversion though. My State Farm agent didn't question Van on coverage of  a Prevost and it is not factory,State Farm has good Road side, towing and is cheap ,I dropped Coachnet State Farm charged me $22.00 a year ,I used it once when I cut a tire in Idaho

Finally,
I got insurance through FMCA. Had to send a bunch of pictures inside and out. They wrote it through Progressive. Go figure.
$660/year, full coverage.
My first time to use any benefit from FMCA.  I’m glad to put this to rest 😓

Progressive covered mine after initially denying it. Took a month to go through underwriting

Progressive says in their manual the don't cover conversions. However, the right agent can get it covered.

With Progressive, It seems like either an agency or their 800 number will give you coverage. I got mine thru an agency in Las Vegas.  But later on the 800#  gave me new insurance...

You never know what goes on with Progressive, my box truck is commercial they were the cheapest it cost me $215.00 for 6 months others wanted $600.00 except State Farm they don't do commercial. When I bought the Country Coach my agent placed me with Progressive that didn't long they sent me a bill for $8500.00 a year ,I got better coverage with tow insurance from State Farm for $2200.00 a year
