This 1960 Silver Eagle bus is truly one of a kind. Not only does it have an amazing vintage look but also has been uniquely equipped for off-grid living and boondocking. It has a massive 3,350w solar system, Victron Multiplus 10,000va inverter/charger and a battery bank equal to 33, 12v 100amphour Lifep04 batteries. The whole solar/inverter/battery system is over $30k. It is cooled by a very energy efficient residential minisplit AC (only uses 60% of the power that standard RV rooftop unit uses) and is heated by wood stove, diesel air heater or the heat pump on the minisplit. Our family stayed toasty warm in the bus while visiting relatives in Northern Minnesota over Christmas a couple years ago when it was -9° below.
The queen bed in the back sleeps 2 adults, the basement bedroom can sleep 2 kids and the
couch can fold down to sleep another guest.
The bus is powered by a Detroit Diesel 8v71 with a RoadRanger 10 speed manual
transmission. While you won’t win any races with this bus, it runs good and hasn’t ever left us stranded in the 22k miles we’ve driven it. It has newer tires with tons of tread and a tow hitch on the back that we used to tow our Jeep frequently.
Below are the specifics of the bus.
It is currently at our seasonal campsite in East Bethel, MN and is easy to show, but to save
everybody some hassle, we will only do test drives if someone is really serious. Also keep in
mind, with a bus this old and unique it’s going to be difficult to get traditional bank financing. Your best bet is to have cash available in your account and get a cashiers check for payment.
