Side marker light color
« on: June 22, 2024, 01:29:26 PM »
Is there a rule regarding the color of a side marker light?

I quite like the white/ clear lens.

Mine are in need of replacement.

Similarly, I had questions about reflective tape colors, red, orange, all around, particularly the passenger and driver sides?

Are you referring to the Port or the Starboard side?  ;D

The red light indicates a vessel's port side; the green indicates a vessel's starboard side.

Sternlight: This white light is seen only from behind or nearly behind the vessel.

FMVSS 108:

My understanding (but please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the vehicle must have all the lights/reflectors/etc that were required when it was new, which are not necessarily today's requirements.   My 1990 bus did not come from the factory with all the lights needed now, but it's still legal (I hope).

I heard the same thing, so I assume this is true.

Optronics link seems to match what I've seen on the road. Esp for our buses > 30' length, intermediate side markers, amber.  Link is very helpful.

Epretot -

Basically, the rule states that side marker lights in front of the rear axle must be yellow/amber.

Side marker lights behind the rear axle must be red.

Clear lens with appropriately colored bulb might be ok, try at your own risk.

Agreed.

I'm went with the clear ones.

If I have to change them it would take 30 min.
