Hydrogen Finally Getting Its Day
A raft of hydrogen investments is underway as California mandates the phase-out of diesel trucks and U.S. and EU policy makers plot a divorce from Russian oil and gas.
David Kiley | Nov 11, 2022
LOS ALAMOS, NM – For as long as most of us can remember, the hydrogen economy has been 20 years off. That goes back to the mid-1990s, when General Motors first started revving up the idea of hydrogen power along with a handful of outspoken boosters of the technology.
And while the mobility industry today seems all about a future powered by lithium-ion batteries, there is movement somewhat under the radar to once again advance hydrogen-powered transportation/mobility. But don’t look at your driveway or a car dealership for the signs. It’s all about long-haul trucking, shipping, new-construction housing, buses, farm equipment, forklifts and even aviation.
Taking all those sectors together, hydrogen energy projects and investments seek to produce as much as possible from renewable resources, which would have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
“There is an undeniable desire to make more of hydrogen in the energy economy,” says Sumanth Addageria, vice president of Albuquerque, NM-based BayoTech, which supplies hydrogen trailers to distribution points such as TrueZero hydrogen stations in California.
BayoTech’s position is backed up by a recent report by consulting firm Deloitte that projects hydrogen “to be the next energy (sector) to scale.”

I read in energy magazine we will need 480% more electricity than we produce now because of electric vehicle's,I kinda doubt the 480 % numbers but don't doubt we will need more, also read where the GM Hummer will cost $100.00 to fully charge

$100 to fully recharge??? Come on. Maybe in Ca.
There are current articles about GM's current work with hydrogen and new break throughs. All mfgrs are spending some part of their research budget on it. Can't risk being caught behind.

It won't be long before charging will cost as much as gasoline or diesel did in the past on the road.I already see charging stations @10 to 15 dollars for a hour charge @ Loves,Walmart is adding charging stations at some locations now

Oh yeah. The honeymoon will end once the public starts embracing it. Annual " electric" vehicle special additional registration fees. Demand electric meters at home, high recharge rates on the road. Waiting hours for recharge slot at busy locations, skyrocketing home electric rates, increased fuel taxes to lessen burden on the new technology and force the transition quicker. In the end, electric vehicle use won't be any cheaper, most likely more costly.
Also additional taxes to change all the city transit systems over since we already subsidize rider costs.

The trend is towards suv's, so sedans is in less demand. And their are a portion of population always wants to drive a "see me" or jump on latest trends. Then you have the leg humpers. Tesla, BMW, Prevosts, Harbor Freight.lol😉

White Hydrogen. As it's called when taken from the air.
This isn’t exactly white hydrogen, as it isn’t free-floating, but it is likely as close as we’ll come.
The method described by the scientists from the University of Melbourne’s Department of Chemical Engineering involve using the humidity from the air in an electrolyzer powered by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. This concept is meant to help to bring green H2 to remote regions that are traditionally low in liquid water, pulling the H2O straight out of the air.

@UniMelb
Our @engunimelb researchers have developed a way to generate hydrogen from air instead of the conventional method using fresh water. It could lead to a better way to store renewable power which doesn't deplete scarce water resources.

Cummins Engine is in hot pursuit of Hydrogen based engines (H2-ICE) with the 6.7 and 15L engines so it is coming won't be long before the 6.7 H2 will be an option for Dodge pickups

Sounds like more snake oil.
Humidity ratios vary widely. In the tropics it can hit 100% but in cold areas can be below 10%. Considering the weight difference it's easy to see that vast quantities of air would need to be processed to remove small volumes of water. Consider the water drain from your air conditioner, that's about the volume of water you could expect to be recovering and it's not going to produce enough hydrogen to run a vehicle on. For a semi truck half the cargo space would have to be used for air processing.

I believe this push is due to the depletion of our proven oil reserves. So as not to panic the world of oil consumers, it is not talked about. Why would GM totally go all in on electric vehicles, along with other manufacturers? Why billions being invested in Hydrogen?Would be quite a gamble otherwise.
Why would Aramco put their crude reserves up for sale acouple of years ago? Making too much money on it? Recently Saudis said they couldn't do large increase in supply to drive prices down. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

I read where deep water drilling for oil and gas is going to increase by 60% by 2030 lol they must be banking on a change in DC,gasoline and diesel will be around for years to come

There is way too much money being made on gasoline and diesel to give it up anytime soon, the probably won't happen in our lifetimes and there are way more than enough reserves to last well beyond that.
It's just another way for those with money to make more. If they can convince enough people that it has to happen, then the politicians will find ways of funding it no matter how inefficient the process is or how long it takes. One of the side effects of a global economy is that large pools of resources (read taxes) become available to anyone in a position to control them. Abuses are inevitable.
I'm not saying hydrogen power or electric power is not a good idea, but it's being used as a vehicle to suck ever more money away from the populace. All you need to see to know this is true is to just look at quarterly profits. Particularly oil companies who are making money hand over fist and have been for far too long now. And where is that money coming from? Yeah, just look at the pump prices and attendant inflation rates. Investment values have taken a hard hit from inflation (actual not stated) over the past several years. I think we've pretty much lost the ability to do anything about it too. No wonder the younger generation is sinking into poverty.
